ATOMIC MANIPULATION:Nanoscience delves into manipulation of life's building blocks. The possibility of arranging or building matter from the bottom-up, atom by atom, presents diverse and significant implications for our bodies, culture, and morals. At a table incorporating the inner cell's architecture, visitors observe a live bird's-eye view of the inner cell that is projected onto the surface of the table. Visitors move, manipulate, and reorient individual "atoms" (representations of human-scaled robots within the Cell) in actions that emulate the operations of the Scanning Tunneling Microscope. The effects of the visitor's interaction with the "atom" avatars can be witnessed in the live tabletop projection. |
