ENTRANCE:One of the nightmare or dreams of nanotechnology is the ability to invisibly monitor and identify all elements of a person's identity. The good points are detection of criminal and terrorists, the ability to allow people to have personalized environment. The negative side is related to paranoia of pervasive surveillance. Visitors enter NANO and are immediately bombarded by a "swarm" of cameras surrounding the entrance portal. The visitor's picture is taken and instantly projected onto the facing wall. The photograph becomes part of a growing database collecting visual traces of all exhibition visitors. The concepts of database logic and bottom-up construction adhere to the practices of self-assembly witnessed in carbon molecules and central to nanoscience. |
